Inspiration
Live from Material Bank
A legacy of bold design.

For five decades, Saturday Night Live has set the stage for legendary performances, cultural commentary, and comedic brilliance. Its home at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, with the iconic Studio 8H, is just as much a part of the show’s identity as its cast and sketches. Inspired by this legacy, Live from Material Bank is a mix of materials that reflects the industrial grit and theatrical elegance that define the spirit of late-night television.

A foundation of limestone, black terrazzo, and metal accents mirrors the architectural grandeur of Rockefeller Center, evoking the timeless sophistication of its Art Deco details. Exposed brick, concrete surfaces, and dark-stained wood channel the raw energy of a working studio, adding depth, texture, and a sense of history.

Lighting takes center stage, just as it does in Studio 8H. Think stage-inspired spotlights, oversized pendants, and warm marquee-style bulbs to create a space that shifts effortlessly between everyday ambiance and dramatic flair. Layered lighting—task lamps for focused work, soft-glow sconces for intimacy, and bold statement fixtures—brings adaptability, ensuring the space is always ready for its next moment in the spotlight.

Subtle nods to the show’s mix of tradition and modernity come through in the furnishings. Tufted velvet seating recalls the elegance of a vintage greenroom, while sleek acrylic tables and mid-century lounge chairs add a contemporary edge. Modular pieces and movable accents reflect the versatility of a constantly changing set, keeping spaces dynamic and engaging.

For a touch of late-night magic, metallic finishes, playful patterns, and retro-inspired décor add personality and a sense of nostalgia. Vintage film posters, bold abstract artwork, or even a neon sign with a favorite phrase bring a curated, expressive energy—one that feels both timeless and effortlessly cool.

Just like SNL itself, our Live from Material Bank mix of materials is bold, dynamic, and made to stand the test of time. Whether inspired by the grandeur of Rockefeller Plaza or the raw energy of a live stage, these elements bring an undeniable presence—ready for its close-up, and of course, always live from New York.
